11 Fashion Trend Predictions for 2024

In 2023 we saw the emergence of many different trends in fashion, including the resurgence of 2000’s (Y2K) fashion, the use of bows, ribbons, rosettes, wearing lingerie as street clothing and the popularity of brands and designers such as Miu Miu, Mirror Palais, Vivienne Westwood, Stüssy, and more.

In 2024, I’ve identified three primary fashion themes which many new trends and some recycled trends will fall under. These three themes are:

  • Maximalist fashion: in 2024 we’re going to see a lot of bold colors and fabrics, layering and accessorizing outfits, and statement jewelry.

  • Hyperfemine clothing: This includes baby pink and other pastel colors, ruffles, bows, hair ribbons, floral themes, the coquette, ‘innocent’ look, many of which we have already seen in 2023 fashion.

  • Interesting Silhouettes: Designers have become more experimental with the silhouettes they use in their outfits recently. A flattering silhouette can completely alter any basic piece of clothing. Such changes include a return to low rise pants, capris coming back, micro-shorts, asymmetrical pieces, dresses over jeans, etc.

Without further ado, let's dive into the fashion trend predictions of 2024:

One specific accessory trend that I have begun to see is charm bracelets, as well as “charm bags” or the practice of adding charms to accesorize one’s bag. I think that this trend is super cool and will be fun to experiment with.

Accesorizing will be a huge trend this year, with over-the-top fashion accessories such as gloves, hats and statement jewelry making its way into the everyday fashion world. Also under the category of accessories, will be the use of tights, gloves and hats to upscale your outfits. Specifically colorful quirky tights and fur hats will be trendy.

In accordance with the death of the clean girl look will be the rise of more dramatic makeup looks, specifically experimental eye makeup. I predict that dramatic eyemakeup looks such as Priscilla Presley’s style eyeliner and blue eyeshadow, glitter eyemakeup looks and messy grunge eye makeup inspired by the 90s.

Designers may incorporate metallic fabrics in clothing items such as dresses, skirts, or accessories to add a futuristic or glamorous touch to their collections.

In 2023 we saw the popularity of the coquette aesthetic, especially through the practice of tying ribbons on literally anything as a trend. In 2024 this aesthetic will continue to be popular as well as giving way to other hyper-feminine aesthetics in the fashion world.

Flowers are the epitome of femininity in fashion. Personally, I love the use of such hyperealistic flowers within women’s fashion, it's beautiful, elegant and feminine.

Even better than floral dresses and tops is floral heels. From brands like vintage Prada and Dolce and Gabbana, these shoes will help girls live out their childhood fairy dreams.

Among the pastel colors which have come into trend: ballet pink will be the most popular. The ballerina aesthetic encompasses this specific shade of pink as well as the incoming popularity of ballet flats, wrap tops and bows.

The use of asymmetrical silhouettes can serve to accentuate ones figure in a flattering way. This style of clothing is also a good example of how designers can be playful in their designs, adding spice to otherwise bland articles of clothing.

You either love them or you hate them- either way capris were a 2000’s staple which I’m sure will return along with the Y2K resurgence. Capris are a summery pants- a compromise between pants and shorts during the hotter months. Plus, they allow you to show off your shoes!

Micro-shorts, mini-shorts, short-shorts or whatever you want to call them. These style of shorts show off your legs and look amazing with a pair of knee-high boots.

Various factors can serve to influence the styles and trends apparent in the current fashion world. Such factors include elements of popular culture such as movies, social media, celebrities, etc.. current events in the world, and past trends which can resurface in fashion or evolve into something new. Either way, this is my specific take on what I believe may become trendy in 2024 and I guess we’ll only be able to see next year how accurate I really am.
